The role of the Field Service Manager is critical to the success of our business.  In managing our field workforce, the Field Service Manager has a very significant impact on our performance.


We recognise that our Field Service Managers will contribute to our operations in many ways.  Some of their activities will go beyond what is normally understood to be central to their role:  these activities will reflect the local needs of the business and the interests / skills of the individual Manager.  However, it is essential that the core responsibilities of the role are achieved as a minimum.


The overall purpose of the role of the Field Service Manager is:

  • To manage our field workforce in the following four key areas:
  • Health and Safety
  • Quality
  • Productivity
  • Customer Service

 For each of these key areas, you will ensure that you, and your team,

  • achieve the highest standards of health, safety and environmental management
  • fully engage in continuous improvement activities to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations
  • consistently demonstrate appropriate commercial awareness so that we achieve our required levels of profitability
  • have the necessary skills, knowledge and capabilities
  • You will have particular responsibilities for the development of Apprentices and you will contribute to their training, coaching and mentoring

You will consistently demonstrate a leadership style which supports our company values as detailed in our Company Behaviour Standards.



You will develop and maintain an appropriate level of technical knowledge of the products on the maintenance portfolio.  You will also ensure that your team have the necessary technical knowledge.  This will require that you identify the training needs for you and your team and that you ensure that these needs are fulfilled.  You will ensure the effectiveness of Personal Focus and Performance Reviews, as an aid to this. 

You will review any product related information, such as PDN’s, Safety Notices, Retrofit Instructions etc. and ensure that these are communicated to your team effectively and that they are complied with. 


Management Team


You will be an important member of the Management Team of your Branch or Department.  As such you will fully engage in the management and development of the business.  To do this effectively, you will need to:

  • Ensure that your team contributes to the achievement of budgets, business objectives etc
  • Ensure that you and your colleagues fully understand issues, risks and opportunities which might impact on the business
  • Develop, agree and implement plans to address these matters
  • Understand the commercial and strategic context of the business
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of your BBAP / DBAP.

 You will ensure that your team has an appropriate understanding of these issues.


  • The successful applicant must be qualified to a minimum of NVQ level 3 Management Studies or equivalent; together with a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in Lift Engineering
