We have had an opportunity for a CAD Rail Designer to join our team at our Stephenson Close site based in Andover on a 12 Month Contract. Our CAD Rail Designers design bespoke Stairlifts from surveys provided from Sales advisors and distributors across the world; providing production drawings to tight deadlines


The ideal applicant will come from a customer focused background where they have had to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. You must be computer literate along with being level headed at peak times and able to think outside the box in quiet times whilst contributing to Continuous improvement projects and ideas.


You will need to have a high level of concentration, speed, accuracy and problem solving skills as well as team working skills to take a customer order from survey to manufacture and installation. You will need to be flexible in their approach and happy to work to agreed targets and deadlines


Working Hours: Monday – Thursday: 13:15pm – 23:00pm


Key Responsibilities:

  • Correctly interpret customer surveys, documents and drawings to provide a stair lift to the customer’s needs, requirements and specification
  • Accurately convert digital and manual surveys into 3D staircases in order to design a rail which will best fit the actual staircase and avoid aborted installations and remakes
  • Identify missing/conflicting information with customer surveys and/or documents, potential issues in achieving rail design rules or installation of the stair lift and carry out appropriate action via relevant stakeholders to resolve all queries in a timely manner to maintain progress of all orders within relevant lead times
  • Initiate approval process, supplying customer and order entry with completed drawings and appropriate communication, to ensure rail is put into manufacture in a timely manner, in line with requirements in terms of approval and non approval contracts
  • Interpret customer requirements and resolve all queries to ensure timely completion of a rail design drawing, to enable other resources involved in fulfilling the customer’s order to deliver their own processes/tasks at the appropriate times for delivery of a stair lift to the customer’s requirements. Accountable for achieving the drawing timescales to agreed output and quality targets
  • Responsible for accurately judging when to make a compromise on a design, considers and weigh up options in a timely manner so as to make the best decision for the customer
  • Indentify improvements in digital surveys and drawings, when checking own and others work, to ensure no aborted installations or remakes. Report any trends to manager
  • Support in resolving remakes, carrying out remake surveys and producing a rail remake drawing
  • Ensure customers, distributors and visitors have the appropriate level of understanding of rail design, supporting with demonstrations of rail design practices and survey training
  • Ensures adherence to company policies and quality standards ISO 9001, via management of contract history by accurately completing Ofbiz, check sheet and documentation of all communication for each customer order to finish rail design process
  • Ensures compliance of all curved stair lift in terms of product, manufacturing and regulatory limitations by adhering to and applying rail design rules and different requirements and regulations of each country, to produce good consistent rail design solutions for all rails including complex rails and multi-flight rails

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrates proven experience working effectively within tight time constraints
  • Previous work experience is not essential, as consideration will be given to individuals who have recently qualified from further education
  • Some experience of AutoCAD, Solidworks or other 3D CAD package is desirable
  • Capable of interpreting customer surveys
  • Customer Service experience is desirable
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workloads in a pressurised environment
  • Excellent computer skills for MS Word, Excel and Lotus notes
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Excellent attention to detail with a capability to produce accurate work
  • Ability to learn, understand and apply new information
  • Ability to solve problems
