Overview

Founded 150 years ago by luminary engineer Joseph Stannah, we are a company with both proud engineering heritage and a clear vision for our future.

Building on the success of our recent product launches, supported by an impressive 136 patents, we have an exciting Product and Technology Road Map showcasing products that, through innovative design and engineering will deliver true benefits to our customers. We need creative Mechanical, Software and Hardware problem solvers of all levels to join the business and help make these ideas happen.

If you want to be challenged in an environment where ideas and innovation are encouraged; delivering products that make a difference to people’s lives then we want to hear from you.

Role

We primarily write and deliver embedded software solutions for passenger transportation. Our expertise is in motion control, sensor algorithms, board level communications and safety critical systems; the role you will lead is hands on and involves working with electromechanical devices and machines. You will work closely with all engineering disciplines to ensure a holistic design solution is achieved.

You will be part of a team that design, develop, and deliver new products to production; we also support our existing range with upgrades and new features. You will experience diversity in the role and will not be limited by your skills or experience.

Historically we’ve used C code for embedded processors, and more recently Python, C# and C++ for supplementary tools. We ensure high integrity with coding standards, testing and continuous integration. Language and tools do not limit our abilities, but serve to advance our skills and products.

What are we looking for?

We’ll expect you to be proficient in embedded C as your primary language and have demonstrated knowledge of other languages such as Python, C#, C++ or assembler. We are an experienced software team that hold a wealth of experience in various languages; we see this as a strength that has aided our solutions to problems.

The nature of our products requires you to have good knowledge for electronic and mechanical systems. Due to the flexibility of software we are often the team that interfaces between the other disciplines to resolve design problems with a software solution.

We expect you to hold a HNC/Degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline related to Software, and be a great communicator with the ability to communicate at all levels.

We would love you to have experience in:

  • Embedded systems and development of software for microcontrollers.
  • Written software for machines i.e. white goods, vehicles etc.
  • Worked in Agile environments and aware of Scrums, Sprints etc.
  • Good knowledge of compilers, debuggers, version control and bug tracking methods.
  • Strong delivery skills: a huge drive to get something completed and shipped.
